Learning To Use A Compass
In maths we are learning to give directions, read grid references and coordinates, use a compass, map and atlas. This links well to our Journey Around Scotland geography topic.
We went outside to learn how to use a compass. We learned that the Earth is like one big magnet and the needle in a compass is a magnet too! The compass needle is attracted to the North Pole of the Earth's magnet and always points towards the North. It was quite tricky to get the hang of using a compass because the letters on the compass sometimes confuse us!
