Britt Harcus Visit
In P5/4 we were interested in learning about Scottish castles.  Lots of children's fairytales have castles in them so we have decided to write a children's book set in a castle.  The P1 topic is 'Castles' so we are going to write our stories for them.

Today Britt Harcus came in to give us some tips and inspiration for our stories.  She is a local artist, illustrator and author who has written and illustrated a number of children's books.
This is her toolkit.  She has a few pencils, sharpeners, pens, paint brushes and paints.  We were surprised that she has NO RUBBER!

Britt showed us some of the original illustrations for her book 'Janice Wants To Be Heard.'  She explained that she writes the story first and then draws the pictures to match. This is her favourite illustration in the book.

Britt read us one of her books.

We asked Britt lots of questions.  Dara asked her what kind of castle she would draw if she was writing a book like ours.  She drew a castle and gave us lots of helpful tips.

Remember - everyone can draw!  And even if it doesn't seem perfect to you, keep going, don't rub out and it might end up to be the best picture you have ever drawn.
